3/8" Engineered Hardwood with a HDF Repel Water Resistant Collection
High-Density Fiberboard (HDF) is an engineered wood product made by breaking down hardwood or softwood residuals into wood fibers, combining them with wax and resin binders, and pressing them together under extreme heat and pressure. The result is an exceptionally dense, uniform core that is stronger and smoother than traditional plywood. When it comes to humidity, HDF significantly outperforms plywood because its tightly compressed fibers leave little room for moisture to penetrate and cause swelling. Plywood, by contrast, is made up of layered wood veneers with natural grain variations and glue lines that can absorb moisture unevenly, leading to warping, delamination, and instability over time. HDF's consistent density helps it resist the expansion and contraction caused by humidity fluctuations, making it an ideal core material for flooring in kitchens, bathrooms, and other moisture-prone areas.
